Parents naming newborns after humble TikTok trend spark debate

Are these names too thoughtful and cute?

In the wake of the “cool” trend taking over social media popularized by TikToker Jools LeBron, parents are taking the trend a step further.

They are naming their newborn “Demure”.

A young mother posted a TikTok video featuring her daughter earlier this month, revealing that she was named Demure Reign.

“Meet DeMure,” the mother wrote in the caption. “Look how she doesn’t cry! Very sweet, very cute, very humble.”

The title is a play on LeBron’s original video that went viral after it was posted on August 2, prompting a cascade of creatives, brands and notable figures to use her catchphrase, “very humble, very conscious, very cute”.

Suspicious viewers couldn’t contain their shock, hoping the creator was just joking, despite her insistence that she wasn’t.

“Please tell sike,” one user begged.

“Oh you all are affected,” said another.

“I would honestly cry every day if my name was humbled, bless him,” someone else snarled.

“Now my question is, was this picked before the trend or not,” asked another, to which the new mum explained it was a “last minute change”.

The original name, she revealed in the comments, was “Rhaenyra,” a nod to the “Game of Thrones” spin-off “House of the Dragon.”

Meanwhile, others thought the name was “cute”.

“Demure is actually a pretty name,” argued one person.

“You know what…I’ll allow it,” writes another. “It’s really cool.”

“So funny cuz I saw a post saying they are waiting for ppl to start naming their kids humble,” one viewer commented. “Congratulations!”

And she’s not the only one – one mum joked about naming her newborn ‘De’Mure Dy’Nasty’, while another seemed serious about her unique baby name, ‘Demure Grey’.

“The first of their generation,” one user defended the latter.

“I actually think it’s a cute name,” wrote another. “Who cares if it’s a tiktok trend.”

The TikTok trend of the month originated from a video posted by LeBron, who now boasts more than 2 million followers on the platform, in which she described her vibe as “very humble, very caring” — or, in other words, classic, elegant. or not “doing too much”.

“I’m not messy or mean or jealous, I’m cool,” LeBron explained to People about the meaning of “humble.”

“I’m not crazy and wild, I’m very humble; I am very reserved and quiet. I am conscious. I am aware of how I treat others and how I make people feel and how I am perceived by others.”

However, ironically, LeBron posted the video with no intention of leading a fad that has now thrust him into the spotlight after more than a decade of content creation.

“I thought I looked especially like a Bratz doll,” she told People, adding that she just “loved it [her] makeup that day.”

“I saw a video that said how Barbie started out very humble and modest and how her biggest competition Bratz was far from her. So I thought it was funny to say that I was humble with my winged black eyeliner, giant eyelashes, thigh-length blonde hair and acrylic nails.

The catchphrase and catchphrase has since become a viral trend that shows no signs of slowing down, with prominent pop culture figures and successful creatives all using the sounds and phrases trending online, including Jennifer Lopez, Olivia Rodrigo and Jenna Ortega.

“Maybe you should make the videos,” she advised would-be content creators. “Because one day, I was playing cashier and making videos on my break and now, I’m flying across [the] the place where events will be organized.”
