Beloved candy returns 14 years after hiatus: ‘Childhood memories unlocked’

Fans were livid when this sweet was pulled from the shelves – but now it’s making a comeback more than a decade after it was discontinued.

Altoids Sours first went on sale in 2001, before being dropped nine years later.

Since 2010, desperate fans have started numerous change.org petitions begging for the cake to be returned.

Now, they’ve finally succeeded – but there’s a catch.

The confections will only be for sale at the Old Country Store at Cracker Barrel and will be sold under a different name, the food Instagram account Snackolator revealed.

Each location of the popular Southern diner has an attached shop, full of nostalgic accessories and food.

However, Iconic Candy clarified to The Post that the candy “will also be available to all retailers nationwide that wish to carry it.”

Snackolator shared that the treats will not be made by Altoids, accounting for the name change.

They’re reportedly being made by third-party company Iconic Candy, a family-owned and operated candy company that specializes in bringing back discontinued favorites, and the candies will now be known as Retro Sours.

Snackolator also claimed that the revival will use the same original recipe, although Iconic Candy never claimed nor confirmed that the original recipe will be used.

Flavors customers can expect to find include mango, tangerine and citrus.

Lovers of Altoids Sours are apparently thrilled by the news, commenting that they “can’t wait until they come back”.

“Childhood memories unlocked!!!” – shouted one.

“I NEVER THOUGHT I’D LIVE TO SEE THE DAY!!!” 😠😠😔, wrote another.

“I’ve been dying for these since they left!” someone else agreed.

Although the revival will use the exact same original recipe, the desserts will be given a new name: Retro Sours. Icon Candy/Facebook

“The roof of my mouth hurts looking at them,” quipped one commenter.

While no final date for the return has been announced yet, Snackolator wrote that they will be “coming this month” to Cracker Barrel locations.

Iconic Candy issued a disclaimer to The Post, noting that “Iconic Candy, LLC is not affiliated with the original product manufacturer, nor Altoids or the Wm. Wrigley Jr. Company.”
